Wording Makes a Difference

Week 2:

12 to-dos: 10 completed 1 progress made 1 untouched

My lesson for myself this week was the importance of the way my goals are worded. I personally struggle with the cycle of laundry. I can wash and dry for the most part without any trouble. Putting the clean laundry away though? Apparently I’d prefer to dig though the overflowing laundry basket of clean clothes for weeks.

The issue of not actually finishing my laundry by putting it away makes me nuts. I’m not sure why I have so much trouble completing the task. Therefore in my overarching goal for 2019 of “Beautiful Home” getting the laundry done is a big goal for me.

For Quarter One I actually have two laundry goals: 1) be more consistant with laundry and 2) put away all clean laundry within 24 hours. Week One’s laundry goal was do 3 loads of laundry and put it away within 24 hours.

Each load I did that week, I was conscious to make sure to put it away fresh from the dryer. One thing that helped me was to sort into two groups – hang up and fold – as I pulled each item from the dryer. For the boys clothes I sorted them into their own piles and then went from there.

It was a success! I achieved my goal and felt great about the road I had started. Apparently I was drunk with the power and decided that my goal for Week Two would be put away ALL clean laundry within 24 hours. My rational was I’m not sure how many loads I’ll have to do this week so why limit myself?

Load 1 was a success, no problem. But then I got tripped up on the second load. I put it in the dryer in the evening. I decided to just go to bed because I could get to it in the morning. Well one thing after another and I didn’t end up meeting the 24 hour deadline.

The worst part was that it completely derailed me for the rest of my goal to get my laundry put away because by day 2 I’d already made the goal impossible to fully achieve!

So lesson learned – for this goal I need to be very specific. Good thing tomorrow is a new week for me to get started again!
