Early Morning Musings

It’s challenging when as a tired (extremely tired) parent your sweet baby or child wakes you up during the night. The fun kicks in when after said sweet baby or child gets soothed back to sleep, but sleep eludes you! The to-do list and the forget-me-nots start yelling at you and you lay in bed looking at the ceiling wondering for the millionth time why you aren’t asleep.

Early this morning I tried the “write it down” tactic. If you haven’t heard of this one, the idea is that those items that are keeping your brain running like a hamster on a wheel, get them written down. Then hypothetically, you’re able to drift off peacefully asleep safe in the knowledge that you won’t forget that important thought.

Well after I wrote down about ten things at 4 in the morning, guess who was wide awake? The upside was I got the first hot shower and got ready at my leisure. I also was able to then do some picking up around the house and work on my blog! So perhaps the tactic worked in an unusual way – I had a productive morning and I didn’t get trapped zoning out on my phone, staring at the ceiling, or forgetting those items that were so important so early.

I’m sure I’ll try this tactic again-I’ll let you know if I drift off blissfully or turn on the productivity. Sleep happens again right? Right?
