Looking ahead

Week 12

15 to-dos: 11 done, 2 progress made, 2 untouched

Last Saturday I got to make fresh pasta for the first time with my friend and accountability partner Tonni. While we made delicious pasta and a huge mess, we also talked about the upcoming quarter two.

In the past, I haven’t thought of the next quarter goals until I’ve finished the current quarter. This leads to me not starting off on the right footing for the next quarter because I’m so focused on finishing that I forget about starting. Then I take the first week of quarter two figuring out what I want my goals to be.

Now I do think you can start a new goal or goals whenever you are motivated to make a change. This post is about when you’re already making great progress, making it so you can continue to have great progress.

Tonni’s style is to plan her goals for the whole year divided up into quarters st the beginning of the year. At the end of each quarter she sees if she needs to move any incomplete goals to the next quarter.

This year I’ve given myself overarching goals for the whole year, but I break them down and check in each quarter. So at the beginning of the year I had my goal categories and my goals for quarter one. My midway check in kicked off me thinking about my quarter two goals because I had begun to see what worked well and wanted to brainstorm what may work better.

I then started thinking specifically about my quarter two goals last week. I went back to my overarching goals and my quarter one goals to see where I wanted to progress from. A good example is my overarching core goal – from there I knew I wanted to continue my waking goal and increase it. My quarter one goal of walking 45 minutes a week led to my quarter two goal of walking an average of 60 minutes a week. By putting the average in there I give myself a little grace while also encouraging myself to grow and work towards being consistent.

Ready for Quarter Two? I’m looking forward to not missing a beat!
